The Planet Needs A Good Lawyer - ELAW To The Rescue

greatnonprofits.org

The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (ELAW) helps communities speak out for clean air, clean water, and a healthy planet. Public interest lawyers from 10 countries founded ELAW in 1989. These lawyers were working together at a public interest law conference at the University of Oregon School of Law. They realized that if they could share strategies and legal and scientific information across borders, they could protect communities and the environment more effectively. ELAW became a pioneer in wiring the grassroots. Today, more than 300 public interest advocates from 80 countries work together through the ELAW network.

ELAW advocates play key roles in helping communities pursue environmental justice. They help citizens participate effectively in decisions about the environment, challenge environmental abuses, and enforce environmental laws. They publish guides to citizen participation, train community "paralegals" to represent community interests, and bring legal action to stop the worst offenders.

Their cornerstone strategy: Finding strong lawyers who are committed to protecting the environment in their home countries. Use your social platforms to spread the word about their good work. To learn more, donate and get involved visit https://elaw.org
